Founder | Advocate
Pal & Co. Law Chambers is headed by Mr. Arkadeep Pal, an Advocate with over four years of post-qualification experience in litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution. The Chambers is headquartered in Bengaluru and maintains an active practice across a wide range of civil, commercial, and regulatory matters.
Mr. Pal has appeared before forums spanning the trial courts to the Supreme Court of India, including the High Court of Karnataka, the National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal, Debt Recovery Tribunals, RERA, and domestic arbitral tribunals, including the Karnataka Arbitration and Conciliation Centre. This breadth of forum experience enables the Chambers to advise clients with clarity and continuity at every stage of a dispute — from early advisory and pre-litigation strategy through trial, appeal, and enforcement.
The Chambers has developed particular depth in insolvency and bankruptcy law, with hands-on experience in significant corporate insolvency proceedings before the NCLT, and in arbitration law, with a focus on procedural strategy, interim relief, and post-award proceedings. Alongside its dispute resolution practice, Pal & Co. advises on general corporate matters, intellectual property, conveyancing, and estate planning, and represents clients in matrimonial, family, and criminal proceedings.
Practice Areas
Dispute Resolution — Civil, Commercial & Public Law
Representation across the full range of civil, commercial, and public law matters — from pre-litigation advisory through trial, appeal, and execution.
We represent clients across the full range of civil, commercial, and public law matters — from pre-litigation advisory through trial, appeal, and execution. Our litigation practice spans Civil Courts, High Courts, the Supreme Court of India, the National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal, Debt Recovery Tribunals, and statutory bodies, including RERA. We appear in matters involving commercial disputes, contractual claims, property and title litigation, injunction proceedings, recovery actions, and landlord-tenant disputes.
In public law, we advise and represent clients in writ proceedings before High Courts and the Supreme Court, including matters involving constitutional rights, statutory interpretation, and challenges to administrative and regulatory action. We engage with issues arising across sectors where private interests intersect with state action and public authority.
Our arbitration practice covers ad hoc and institutional proceedings, with experience in interim relief applications, procedural disputes, and post-award enforcement and challenge. In insolvency, we handle creditor and debtor-side mandates under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, including admission petitions, resolution support, and appellate proceedings. We also appear before Debt Recovery Tribunals and labour courts in recovery and employment-related matters.
Dispute Resolution — Matrimonial & Family
Sensitive, considered representation recognising the personal consequences that extend well beyond the courtroom.
We provide sensitive, considered representation in matrimonial and family matters, recognising that these proceedings carry personal consequences that extend well beyond the courtroom. Our practice covers divorce proceedings under personal law and the Special Marriage Act, judicial separation, maintenance and alimony claims, child custody and guardianship matters, and proceedings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. We also advise on matrimonial property rights, stridhan recovery, and partition and succession disputes within families.
Matrimonial and family disputes frequently give rise to connected criminal proceedings, whether under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, dowry-related offences, or allegations arising in the course of custody and separation disputes. We represent clients on both sides of such proceedings before Magistrate Courts, Sessions Courts, and High Courts, including in bail applications, quashing petitions under Section 482 CrPC, and trial.
Where resolution outside court is possible, we actively explore mediation and negotiated settlement as alternatives to protracted litigation, prioritising outcomes that serve our clients' long-term interests and, where children are involved, their welfare above all.
Criminal Law
Representation at every stage from investigation and bail through trial and appeal.
We represent individuals, directors, and corporate entities in criminal proceedings across Magistrate Courts, Sessions Courts, High Courts, and the Supreme Court; at every stage from investigation and bail through trial and appeal.
A significant part of our criminal practice involves economic and financial offences. We handle cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, representing both complainants and accused across summary trial proceedings and appellate courts. In white collar crime matters, we advise and appear in cases involving fraud, criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and offences under sector-specific legislation, including the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Companies Act, 2013. We also represent clients in cybercrime proceedings, covering offences under the Information Technology Act, 2000, including data theft, online fraud, identity theft, and unauthorised access, and advise on the intersection of cyber law with financial and corporate criminal liability.
Beyond economic offences, we handle bail applications, anticipatory bail, quashing petitions, and represent clients in general criminal matters where robust advocacy and procedural precision are equally essential. Where clients face simultaneous civil and criminal exposure, as is common in commercial disputes and matrimonial matters, we coordinate strategy across both tracks to ensure consistency and protect our clients' interests at every front.
General Corporate & Due Diligence
Advisory at every stage — from structuring and incorporation through ongoing compliance and commercial contracting.
We advise businesses at various stages, from structuring and incorporation through ongoing compliance and commercial contracting. Our transactional work includes drafting and negotiating agreements across sectors, reviewing and opining on corporate documents, and advising on regulatory compliance. We conduct legal due diligence for acquisitions, investments, and financing transactions, with particular focus on identifying litigation exposure, contingent liabilities, and title risks. We also advise on employment frameworks, vendor and service contracts, and general commercial matters that arise in the course of business.
Intellectual Property
Advisory and representation across the full range of intellectual property matters — from registration through enforcement.
Our transactional and advisory practice covers trademark, copyright, design, and patent matters, including filing and prosecution of applications, responding to examination reports and objections, and advising on IP strategy, licensing, and assignment. We assist clients in conducting IP audits, structuring licensing arrangements, and drafting agreements that adequately protect proprietary rights in commercial transactions.
On the contentious side, we represent clients in trademark and copyright infringement proceedings, passing off actions, and design disputes before Civil Courts and High Courts. We advise on interlocutory relief strategy, including applications for temporary injunctions and Anton Piller-type orders, where urgent protection of intellectual property rights is required. We also handle opposition and rectification proceedings before the Trade Marks Registry, and advise on domain name disputes and online infringement, including takedown mechanisms and platform liability questions.
Where IP rights intersect with criminal law, as in cases of counterfeiting, piracy, and deliberate infringement at scale, we coordinate civil and criminal strategy, including complaints under the Trade Marks Act, Copyright Act, and the Indian Penal Code, and represent clients in related criminal proceedings.
Media & Entertainment
Advisory and dispute resolution across film, music, digital content, and advertising — from rights structuring and clearance through enforcement.
We advise producers, studios, artists, musicians, digital creators, agencies, and brands on the commercial and regulatory framework governing content. Our transactional work covers chain-of-title verification and rights clearance, production and co-production agreements, writer, director, and talent contracts, music composition and synchronization licenses, distribution and syndication arrangements, and brand endorsement and influencer engagement agreements. We advise on first ownership under Section 17 of the Copyright Act, 1957, on assignment and licensing under Sections 18 and 19, including the non-assignable royalty entitlements introduced by the 2012 amendment in favour of authors of underlying literary and musical works, and on performers' rights under Section 38A. Where music is licensed for broadcast or public performance, we advise on dealings with copyright societies and on the statutory licensing regime under Section 31D. In talent and exclusivity arrangements, we advise on the limits imposed by Section 27 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, on restraints extending beyond the term of engagement.
Content regulation in India now cuts across several instruments, and we advise clients on compliance at the point of release rather than after complaint. This includes certification and exhibition under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, as amended in 2023; the obligations of publishers of online curated content and digital news under Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including the three-tier grievance redressal structure; the programme and advertising codes under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995; and advertising compliance under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, read with the Central Consumer Protection Authority's Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022, and the ASCI Code. We advise advertisers and endorsers alike on disclosure obligations and on the due diligence expected before a claim is made, given that Section 21 of the 2019 Act permits the CCPA to impose penalties on endorsers and to prohibit them from making endorsements for defined periods.
On the contentious side, we act in content disputes before Civil Courts and High Courts, including pre-release injunction applications, disputes over credit, royalty, and terminated engagements, and claims arising from unauthorised use of scripts, formats, and underlying works. We handle piracy and anti-camcording actions under the Copyright Act, 1957 and Sections 6AA and 6AB of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and pursue online enforcement through takedown notices, dynamic injunctions against mirror and rogue websites, and directions to intermediaries under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. We also advise on personality and publicity rights, an area developed principally through recent High Court decisions rather than statute, covering unauthorised commercial exploitation of name, likeness, and voice, including synthetic and AI-generated imitation, and we act in defamation proceedings, civil and criminal, arising from published, broadcast, and online content.
Sports Law
Advisory and dispute resolution for athletes, federations, clubs, and commercial partners across a sector now governed by statute.
Indian sport has moved from an administrative code to a statutory framework. The National Sports Governance Act, 2025 was brought into force in stages from the end of 2025, and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 and National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026 have since been notified under it. We advise national and state federations, clubs, and athletes on recognition and compliance obligations under the new regime, on constitutional and bye-law amendments required to meet it, on executive committee and athletes' committee elections conducted under the oversight of the National Sports Election Panel, and on the continuing relevance of the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011. For state associations, we also advise on registration and governance under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960 and allied state law.
Sports disputes in India have historically been fought through writ proceedings before High Courts. The 2025 Act channels defined categories of dispute to the National Sports Tribunal, with appeal to the Supreme Court, and provides for the transfer of pending civil proceedings falling within its jurisdiction. We act in selection and eligibility disputes, challenges to disciplinary action and suspension, election and recognition disputes, and age and eligibility proceedings. Where a matter engages tribunal jurisdiction, writ jurisdiction, and a contractual arbitration clause in parallel, as is increasingly common, we advise on forum strategy before proceedings are commenced, and we act in arbitrations under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 and in proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
We advise athletes and support personnel in anti-doping proceedings under the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, as amended in 2025, including responses to adverse analytical findings, whereabouts failures, therapeutic use exemptions, and hearings before the Disciplinary Panel and the Appeal Panel, together with onward appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Since the World Anti-Doping Code's provisions on anti-doping rule violations now carry statutory force as a Schedule to the Act, and the amended Act requires departures from WADA's testing and laboratory standards to be examined, procedural compliance in sample collection and analysis is frequently determinative, and we prepare cases accordingly. We also advise on integrity matters, including conflict-of-interest and match-fixing allegations, and on safeguarding and harassment complaints under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and the safe-sport obligations now imposed on recognised bodies.
On the commercial side, we draft and negotiate player and coaching contracts, transfer and loan arrangements, agent representation agreements, sponsorship and team ownership documents, venue and event agreements, and broadcast and media rights arrangements, including the obligations arising under the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act, 2007. We advise on athlete image and endorsement rights and on the enforceability of exclusivity and post-term restraints, which turn on Section 27 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, and on ambush marketing, which India addresses through passing off and the Trade Marks Act, 1999 rather than dedicated legislation. In esports, we advise on recognition under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and registration under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026, and on the distinction between permitted formats and the online money games prohibited by the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.
Conveyancing & Estate Planning
Property transactions and succession planning across Karnataka.
We assist individuals, families, and entities with property transactions and succession planning across Karnataka. Our conveyancing practice covers title verification, drafting of sale deeds, agreements to sell, lease and leave-and-licence agreements, and related documentation. We advise on stamp duty and registration requirements and coordinate with revenue and sub-registrar offices. On the estate planning side, we draft Wills, trust deeds, and related instruments, and advise on the legal and tax implications of succession, gifting, and family arrangements, with a view to minimising future disputes and ensuring testamentary intent is clearly expressed.
